The Wisdom of Life

AYURVEDA

It is primarily a science of Self-healing aimed at relieving the diseases of body and mind. But it is more than a system of natural healing. It is both a science and an art of appropriate living which supports longevity and maximizes human potential.

Ayurveda is emerging as one of the most important global systems of body-mind medicine. It covers all aspects of health and well-being –physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

It includes all methods of healing forms diet, herbs, exercise and lifestyle regimens, rejuvenation therapy to yogic practices and meditations.

These practices are not just palliative. They are an integral and respected part of the healing process.

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. Tibetan medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine both have their roots in Ayurveda. Early Greek medicine also embraced many concepts originally described in the classical ayurvedic medical texts dating back thousands of years.

Ayurveda teaches that health is maintained by the balance of three subtle energies, known in Sanskrit as VATA, PITTA, and KAPHA. These energies account for all forms of matter (Kapha), the force and direction they move (Vata), and the transformations they go through (Pitta).

Using the principles of Ayurveda, we can identify our mind/body nature and use this understanding to make the most nourishing choices in our lives. It is common for people to have a blend of characteristics and usually one will tend to be dominate.

These three elements found in nature are also found in humans and are constantly striving for balance as three energy systems called Doshas: VATA (Air), PITTA (Fire) and KAPHA (Earth). These primary forces are responsible for the characteristics of our mind and body

Each of us has a unique proportion of these three forces –mind-body constitution-that shapes our nature.
